Get involved

  • Join us at the Oxford Moonlight Stroll
Nine miles through the streets of our city in aid of Sobell House - if you don't want to walk we'd still love to have you involved by marshaling

This year's event takes place on the 13th July and will have a sci-fi theme so pull on those Darth Vader costumes, don your Doctor Who scarves and join us on a Starry Trek through the streets of Oxford in aid of the Sobell House Hospice Charity!

Participate in one of our events

Participating in one of our events not only raises valuable funds for the Hospice, but it is also great fun.  Perhaps you would like to enter a team from your company to participate in one of our activity events – this provides a great opportunity for teambuilding.

Some of the events you could get involved in are the Oxford Moonlight Stroll, London 10k run, Virgin London Marathon.

Organise your own event

Employee fundraising encourages teamwork, builds relationships, provides staff with new skills and has real benefits for Sobell House Hospice Charity. It can improve employee morale and motivation, whilst enhancing your company’s image with staff, suppliers and the community.

Your company can get involved and raise funds through organising in-company activities, events or by taking part as an individual or team in an event.  Here are a few ideas: Here are a few ideas:

  • A Golf Day – This could involve your clients as well as your staff
  • A Fun Night in the Pub – You could have a Pub Quiz or a Karaoke Night
  • Dress Down Day – staff pay to be able to dress down once a month
  • Mad Hatter Day – staff come with crazy hairdos/you can have a competition for the craziest hair
  • It’s a Knock Out – the ultimate corporate teambuilding entertainment event for you and your workmates

What’s more, the Charity can support and promote your fundraising efforts.  We can provide you with fundraising materials such as leaflets, posters and collection tins and give advise on gaining sponsorship, as well as any other assistance required.

Donate Gifts in Kind

Due to the relevance of their business many companies prefer to donate gifts in kind rather than money to us. These gifts are greatly appreciated and help the Charity to raise funds for the Hospice.

An “In Kind” donation could be just about anything: raffle or auction prizes, assisting us with printing costs, use of a venue, services such as PR, consultancy and other advice.

Some of the local companies who have supplied the Charity with Gifts in Kind include:

  • The Fabulous Bakin Boys
  • The Midcounties Co-op
  • Jewson Operations
  • St Edward's School
  • Timbmet
  • Catermaster
  • SMY Electrical Ltd

Organise a stock donation scheme

Your company can organise company–wide collections of unwanted clothes, toys etc. The success of our retail outlets depends on a constant supply of good quality stock donated by the public.

You can donate goods at any of our shops or if you need things to be collected from your company, please contact Kelly Houghton on 01865 857007 or email kelly@sobellhospice.org

Display our Leaflets and Posters

From time to time, we need help in promoting our events or services, so we can spread our message to as wide an audience as possible. If you run a business which either has a large public area, reception, staff restaurant, or has a high footfall of people, your company could display leaflets and posters on our behalf.

Customer Fundraising

Why not have one of our collection boxes on your reception or encourage customers or partners to sponsor your fundraising campaigns.

It is surprising how quickly small change builds up into pounds!  We can arrange collection when the can is full.

Give as you Earn (GAYE)

GAYE enables your employees to donate a small amount of money to Sobell House Hospice Charity every month directly from their salary. Many people who donate in this way say they don’t even miss the money and the added bonus is that the Tax Man even contributes to their donation.

Once this is set up the employee doesn’t have to do anything else, they can donate as much or as little as they wish either every week, if they are paid weekly, or every month if they are paid monthly.

Matched Giving

Matched Giving is a joint donation by staff and the company; employees make an individual donation, either a percentage of their salary or a variable amount, and the company matches it, pound for pound.

You can match give in the following ways:

  • single gifts – if an employee gives £20 to charity, so do you
  • fundraising – match the money raised by staff from putting on events and collecting for charity
  • volunteering time – you ‘pay’ your employees for the volunteering time with a donation to their charity

This motivates staff and builds team spirit, through uniting the company in pursuit of a worthy cause and corporate goals.

Recycle old printer cartridges and mobile phones

Recycling your laser cartridges & mobile phones is environmentally friendly and helps to reduce the 250 million cartridges dumped in landfill sites in the last decade, as well as helping you raise money for your chosen Charity.

According to current statistics, only 5% of empty toner cartridges are currently being recycled - this means 95% of these items are simply discarded and end up in landfill sites.

Empty Cartridge Recycling Ltd are offering to help businesses recycle their used cartridges and mobile phones by sending out collection envelopes/boxes.  Once full, the box will be collected a donation will be made to the Charity.

If you would like to support us through this scheme please contact Empty Cartridge on 01908 371929 or visit their website www.emptycartridge.co.uk

Corporate Christmas - A Donation in Lieu of Cards

Many individuals and companies are choosing to use one single card and to make a donation to a local charity in lieu of sending individual Christmas cards to their colleagues - a great way of providing more lasting benefit from Christmas goodwill.

We can send you a poster to display in your office where you can write your Christmas wishes and let everyone know that you are supporting the Charity this Christmas.

If you would like further details on how you, your company and your colleagues can get involved and have some fun, please contact Kelly Houghton, on 01865 857066 or email kelly@sobellhospice.org
