Nine miles through the streets of our city in aid of Sobell House - if you don't want to walk we'd still love to have you involved by marshaling

This year's event takes place on the 13th July and will have a sci-fi theme so pull on those Darth Vader costumes, don your Doctor Who scarves and join us on a Starry Trek through the streets of Oxford in aid of the Sobell House Hospice Charity!

Education and Training

Sobell House is widely involved in education locally, nationally and internationally as a WHO Centre of Excellence in Palliative Care. Education is an important aspect of the work of all Sobell staff and the Sobell Study Centre provides a wide range of educational opportunities to support the continuing professional development of those working in palliative and end of life care. In addition to our annual programme of study days and courses, our e-learning suite is available for self-directed or group e-learning. Locally we contribute to a range of educational opportunities for Oxfordshire based health and social care staff working in end-of-life care through the Oxfordshire Palliative Care Education Group (OPEG), including placements at Sobell House.

Study days and courses - Sobell Study Centre programme

We offer an annual programme of study days, courses and conferences. These are delivered by specialist staff working at Sobell House and by an invited faculty of external teachers to ensure that we deliver up-to-date knowledge and reflect best practice. We provide a first class learning experience and place a high value on the quality and integrity of our teaching. We think carefully about how people learn when planning our courses, and our teachers are well-respected practitioners in their fields. Our course programme underpins the common core competencies and principles for health care practitioners working with adults at the end of life.

Courses range from short half day sessions to two and three day courses and attract a variety of participants – from volunteers to experienced health care practitioners, locally, nationally and internationally. For a list of current courses, on line and offline bookings click here.

In addition to our course programme we may be able to respond to requests to provide bespoke education. Please contact the Head of Education to discuss options for tailor made training.

Funding opportunities for Oxfordshire health and social care staff

The Oxfordshire PCT has created an education fund to support end-of-life education. Individuals working in Oxfordshire can apply to the PCT for funding to attend courses, and organisations can apply to fund bespoke education.
