about the hospice

About the hospice

Sir Michael Sobell House was established in 1976 to care for people suffering with a life threatening illness, and for their families.

It offers physical, psychological, social and spiritual care to those facing life threatening illness, death and bereavement. The focus is on quality of life, respecting the uniqueness of each person, and respect for the dignity of all users of the service.

Funding

The specialist palliative care service is jointly funded by The Sobell House Hospice Charity and the Oxford Radcliffe NHS Trust.

Status of the Hospice

The hospice is a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Palliative Care, comprising several teams of staff and volunteers who work in the community, in lymphoedema care and research, at the acute hospitals in the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, a Day Hospice, the In-Patient Unit, and the Bereavement Service.
