Phil & Geoff's Bike Ride

Phil Tynan and Geoff High recently rode from Lands End to John O’Groats in aid of Sobell House.  They have now completed their ride and have raised over £2,500 for the Hospice.

This is Phil’s version of events:

”We set off on the 9th September with mixed feelings of excitement, nerves, and a little fear of not knowing what was in front of us.  We cycled off in glorious sun, but day two would prove to be, by far the hardest day of the ride, cycling the unforgiving terrain of Devon.

Each day we felt stronger and grew in confidence the further North we got.  On the second from last day the ride was so nearly over. We were just 120 miles from John O’Groats when disaster struck with me colliding with Geoff and coming off my bike. As well as hurting myself, the bike was not in a great state either!  Luckily the area is used to plenty of cyclists with repair needs, so we were able to get a new derailleur and chain fitted the next day.

Friday night we arrived in Wick, just 16 miles from the end, soaking wet and cold, but we felt great knowing that we had nearly done it.

Cycling into John O’Groats on the Saturday morning was the best feeling in the world.  It was a great but tough experience. Whenever the ride got tough, I just thought of our friend Ali and all the other brave people in Sobell fighting a much tougher battle than us.  I knew that when this was completed we would be tired, but we still had our health.

We dedicate the ride to all the families and friends that have either lost someone in Sobell, or are currently depending on this great charity.

Thank you to all for your support on our Big Bike Ride.”
